Current spermicides have negative side effects and may cause rashes and itching. There is need for a spermicide that is safe and effective, that doesn’t cause side effects in men or women. This study will test the efficacy and shelf life of a natural spermicide made from ascorbic acid and aloe vera. Before we test the product in women, we want to show that it kills sperm.
Twenty men between the ages of 18 and 50 will be recruited to provide semen samples. These samples will be used in the laboratory to test the citrus-based spermicide. The men may donate up to two samples of semen over the course of one year. If this study is successful, a larger safety study will occur in women.
