From basic science to clinical trials, our goal at the Helfgott Research Institute is to apply rigorous methods to answer innovative scientific and clinical questions about complementary and integrative health (CIH). Our Research Investigators utilize methodologies that include basic science, clinical toxicology, preliminary and FDA-regulated clinical trials, clinical epidemiology, practice-based research and health services methods.

The research expertise at Helfgott spans CIH practices with a focus on clinical natural products and mind-body research. Our peer-reviewed publications cover a wide range of conditions including: diabetes, pre-diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular risk reduction, gastrointestinal conditions (IBS, SIBO, inflammatory bowel diseases) and insomnia/disturbed sleep.

Helfgott’s international research interests include evaluation of traditional medical systems and practices, capacity-building for CIH research like training development, and community-based nutrition and lifestyle interventions.
